QuickScope League 1 Predictions

Our roster shot up to 9 people, but that is no longer. The first victim casualty there was Korvuss, who was struggling with keeping active and lost a will to even play. Then PyRo decided to leave, who left to find a new challenge after finding his chances limited in LaB (he’s quite happy in kokaine now, after my recommendation – I’ll take full credit for that). Killersan then fell into the trap of getting a new job and developing a social life. He stopped missing CS:S, and LaB had to continue onwards.

In reality, after that little bit of poetry, members come and go. Shit happens. It’s the same in any team in the history of the Internet. We’ve recruited before, and we recruited again.

We recruited dreD (or drD, since half of LaB loves missing out on vowels in their nicks nowadays) into LaB. He says he’s been looking for the right team for a while and a load of other crap to sweet-talk us, then jumped on a server and showed he wasn’t exactly terrible. He even told us what to do a bit and made hollow promises of attending LANs. Fuck it we thought, then offered him a place with a rousing speech. He was AFK of course, but offered him a place anyway.

WHO ARE LaB?

You’re kidding right? Er.. this is awkward now. We are a bunch of guys who like to play Internet games together and take pride on being a bunch of idiots who are pretty awesome to play with. LaB started in the 90s, and was successfully resurrected in Summer ’09. LaB are KGL and ED regulars and we play in the KGL and have competed in the last 2 EDCSSL seasons. We’re all 20-something, active and settled. We’re good pals with a number of other established clans. We organised the 44-man KGL box at i40 too.

YOU’RE RECRUITING.. BUT WHY!?!?

We’ve trimmed our roster in the last couple of weeks, and now we want another main guy to sit on the roster. You have to be the right guy if you want that to be you. If you’re good enough and active enough, you can expect to play in as many games as we play (there’s no rotation policy).

DO YOU HAVE A TICKLIST OF WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR?

• 18+. No exceptions. The fact we like beer and pornography might one day get us in trouble if we’re around minors. We’re all 19-27 and we’d rather you fit in.
• Stable disposition. We’re looking for people who we like to be around and are quite entertaining in some way (i.e. got great banter, or are quite amusing to abuse). We don’t want someone to start smashing up the crockery because we suck at CS on Sundays.
• Active. Be ‘relatively’ keen. Don’t worry if you have a real-life – we don’t mind those bongo drum lessons your mum pays for on Thursdays. Our team is much smaller then it was now (we’re still active) and we’ve been playing together for a good while, but we’ll work with the best guy to get him wired to our wavelevel.
• Positive thinking. We’re the type to work at their game evolve instead of mudslinging at each other.
• Mid+ or Mid-High. We’re not amazing but we know how to play the game. You must be able to shoot people and not be a thicko.
• The want to improve. A little dedication to improvement of your game.
• Will to abuse and be abused. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT.
• LANnable (Not essential). We went to i38 (and sucked), and we’re going to i40. We went for the banter and the giggles.
• Sundays (KGL), Tuesdays (EDCSSL) and Thursday activity (ED, etc.) are the days we want you to be around.

LaB had expressed interest in attending i40 as a clan again and we toyed with the idea of having an #ASYLUM? Box (the mixing group we’re apart of). The other clans within this group expressed an interest also but it didn’t seem plausible at the time that we were going to have 22 people signed up to secure a box in time. Those doubtful thoughts were cast out quicker than spncr from the gay community after his elf costume was deemed TOO straight. After a week and half of the early bird tickets for i-series, not only did we secure enough places for a 22 man box, we secured enough for a 44 man box along with other teams from The Kokaine Gaming League.

Id personally like to thank wpyz for his involvement in organising this impressive feat, and the community for making it so. This paves the way for epic LAN box shenanigans( yes I used shenanigans), banter and decent CSS matches, without being pestered by those “keen” kiddies down in Gen Pop, ready to shank someone for looking at them funny.

Now on to the KGL Season 8!

Week 2 seen LaB take on Erratic on de_inferno. Before the Erratic game there was a good bit of banter flying back and forth, and with word spread that erratic were going spam in game at mofo, it was my task to keep him calm and not take the bait. Which I have to be fair, he did really well! Although there was a few wee yelps as the excitement slipped through his lips! Not the first time “excitement” has slipped through his lips mind!

I, like many others, watched the l ag gy foo ta ge on the shoutcast game by lvl^. It was hard to see what was good frags and what were bad, but for myself, the key moments were in the commentary, with PuGz changing his name to Tampon it made Crossy come out with some brilliant lines, such as ” an awp in the hands of Tampon” and “Tampon nades himself!” Oh and mofos knife kill was fitting too!

We were predicted to lose this game 19-11 I think we did well to play for the draw. Both sides had a really strong CT side and failed to capitalize on key picks and rotates as T. All in all it was a well played game and a delightfully exhausting game for me to watch! The rest of the games panned out pretty much to my predictions. I think I got 80% Win/loss predictions spot on and I was close enough to getting the rounds right too!

I never had the chance to make any predictions on Week 3 but I have to say, there was no real surprises in regards to the results. I think most of them turned out the way it would be expected. Although I was glad to see Erratic and ta! draw with one another as this opens up our division a bit!

Week 2 sees LaB take on Erratic on de_inferno which we have no doubt that this will be a close game. They opened their KGL season strongly last week with a 24-6 win over NarChaD and will be looking to do the same against us. I am also led to believe that our match against Erratic will be broadcast live @10PM on http://www.levelupyourgame.net/ with Mark Cross doing the same epic commentary as we seen last week with simply.css and ta! (which was a great game to watch I might add!)

However our members are starting to get itchy trigger fingers, dreaming of fame and glory and once again wish to mix it up with the kiddies, so we’re attending another i-series event.  It’s off to i40 we go!

This announcement may be as pre-mature as Diedalot’s sex life, but the cogs are in motion, tickets are being booked, and the excitement of sharing a B&B together, I mean… playing CS:S together… has gripped us and we’re looking forward to it. We went into i38 rather unprepared. We were a relatively new line up with no real strats under our belt so we knew it was going to be tough in the tournament. However not realising the skill level involved we pretty much got schooled at the event – although drinking a gallon of alcohol before it began didn’t help!

Our line up since i38 has changed slightly with the arrival of mofo and spncr who bring in a good quality to the side, even if it is a good quality hand job. We’re starting to get tactics nailed and to gel as a team – so hopefully at this event, we might even make the losers bracket!

We’ll see you at the LAN folks and hopefully their will be a lot of fimiliar faces!

This is only temporary unfortunately, and is a result of a ladder reset during April for the Roccat April Open Bonanza. We’ll crawl lower and lower down as the ladder as the keener teams get a grip on some points (re: by the end of the evening), but for now at least its a nice nod to our old-school roots. Not sure how the “YOU CAN HAVE YOUR POINTS BACK” statement by ED will work in reality but I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

As for why we’re #1, the list is ordered by the clan ID. As LaB are currently the oldest active team in the division while everyone is on zero points, we’re the boys currently on top.

That’s right, we’ve taken another player on! spncr has joined the team!

We have been quite slow to announce this (proving once again just how useless we are) but we’ve recruited one guy into LaB. He goes by the terrible nick of spncr, which sort of fits in with all the other bad nicknames present in LaB (BAD_ASS_MOFO is a prime example – that’s the nick he uses on Steam Friends!)

As far as recruitment goes, we’ve found it really easy this time round. We made a post on ED, and spncr had messaged wpyz within the hour. We got him on for a couple of games and things clicked straight away. He was wearing our tag by the end of the week.

He’s already made a contribution by helping us win our most recent EDCSSL game against league favourites Rasta|, shunning the QuickScope prediction and denting the hopes of the league favourites of winning the division. Always happy to provide an upset.
